The dog days of summer-AKA the sizzling days of the summer. It is a one to two-month interval where the bright star, Sirius, rises and sets with the sun. During these days, a lot of businesses tend to slow down, particularly in the event business. Anyone in the events industry has come to accept this inevitable time of year as a way of business.
When business is slower than usual, a lot of people find themselves with more free time than usual. With this time, we like to focus on preparing for the busy season again. This includes:
Inventory-It is the perfect opportunity to get an accurate count of all of our products. This will also allow our team to be knowledgeable of any equipment that has gone missing or needs repair.
Organize-Now would be a great time to clean out old files that you no longer need to make room for new files. As well as clearing out your email inbox.
Communicate with others within the company-When it’s the busy season, it can be difficult to remain in close contact with our colleagues in other markets. Now would be the time to jump on a conference call to catch up and relay information. Sometimes we come across news and other information that we could benefit from. Such as opportunities to travel and help them out with on-going projects at their properties.
Follow up with Clients-Reach out to clients about quotes that you had discussed previously. Also reach out to past clients to talk about any future business that they may have for you.
Allow you and your team to take a step back and look at how to prepare and improve for the remainder of the year. It’s best to take advantage of the slow seasons. Opportunity is out there, you just have to be willing to go out reach for it!
